A Festive Kodály Event in Dublin
On 10 March, more than sixty former Kodály Institute students, their colleagues, their students, and leading officers of the Irish Kodály Society and its members attended the Dublin event initiated by the Kodály Institute.
At the All Hallows Campus of Dublin City University, Norbert László Nemes, director of the Institute, held a creative music listening and creative movement workshop and Katalin Körtvési held a Kokas session, which was followed by a concert. The concert was given by members of Irish choirs led by three outstanding former students of the Institute: Bernie Sherlock, Orla Flanagan and Róisín Blunnie. The occasional choir, under the direction of Mr. Nemes, performed some works after an intensive rehearsal.
The day ended with an informal conversation where Mr Nemes gave an account of the latest research results of the Kodály Institute, the Erasmus Strategic Partnership with Scottish and Dutch partners and its expected impact, and the infrastructural development of the Institute. The Kodály documentary film crew also captured the wonderful atmosphere through the interviews with the Irish conductors and two other former Institute students from Ireland, Yvonne Higgins and Lorraine O'Connell. From the interviews one could learn about the current state, results and challenges of Kodály's pedagogy in Ireland today.
