One branch of the traditionally high-level instrumental training at the Liszt Academy, the orchestral musician training, receives support by having first-year students engage in string chamber orchestra studies for one year. Mastering the intricacies of orchestral ensemble playing begins in the first semester with the presentation of string orchestra works from various eras, alongside concert preparation rehearsals. Teachers from the Music Theory Department contribute with theoretical analyses and music history lectures. At the end of this complex teaching-learning process, a concert is held where students can showcase their skills on stage before an audience. The repertoire, representing multiple historical styles, offers an exciting challenge and a demanding professional task for the musicians, while providing a rich and enjoyable program for the audience. The chamber orchestra’s work is guided by Péter Kováts, a Bartók–Pásztory Prize-winning violinist and professor at our institution, who also serves as the artistic director of the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra, bringing decades of orchestral leadership and concert experience.
