Featuring students and professors of the Folk Music Department of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music

Folk Dance House Day is traditionally celebrated across Hungary on the anniversary of the first Hungarian táncház, or folk dance gathering. That first experimental event took place in an urban setting in Budapest more than fifty years ago, sparking a movement that would later become internationally known as the folk dance house movement. In 2011, UNESCO included the táncház method in its Register of Good Safeguarding Practices.

This folk music concert is part of a nationwide series of events jointly organized by the Liszt Academy and the Hungarian Heritage House since 2022. The concept for this year’s program is realized through a new approach: students and instructors from the Folk Music Department submitted their ideas via an open call, and the best of these will be brought to life on stage. The creative projects of 2025 are framed by the 150th anniversary of the Liszt Academy’s founding and its close professional partnership with the Hungarian Heritage House.
