One of the youngest Hungarian string quartets, the Korossy Quartet, began working together in 2018 with the clear goal of continuing the rich Hungarian string quartet tradition. The ensemble enjoys the support of renowned artists such as András Keller, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Péter Kováts, Katalin Kokas, Barnabás Kelemen, Márta Gulyás, and Eberhard Feltz. The quartet became more widely known in 2021, when they received five different special prizes at the Bartók World Competition. A year later, the four musicians further developed their skills in the class of the legendary Günter Pichler, the first violinist of the Alban Berg Quartet, at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid. The Korossy Quartet considers the study and performance of Bartók’s string quartet works as one of its core missions, as well as promoting contemporary music. They demonstrate the latter through their performance of Péter Eötvös’s string quartet, a uniquely crafted and dramatically charged piece based on Mozart’s letters.
