Saint Ephraim Male Choir (artistic director: Tamás Bubnó)
Conductor: Péter Tornyai

Tornyai Péter’s composition Dixit was created in 2017 at the request of Tamás Zétényi. The unique orchestral setup of this piece features a solo cello, a male and female soloist of the same voice type, a twelve-member male choir, and a percussionist. In the movements of the work, Tornyai pairs the seven words (acts) of Creation with the last seven words of Christ on the cross, based on the writings of St. Augustine. In 2017, Tornyai spoke about his composition: “The Dixit is, in several respects, the first piece of its kind in my compositional work. One of these aspects is that the question of faith is filtered through it – and perhaps not only because of the theme. Faith, which has always been important in my personal life, but I could only very indirectly connect it with what I do as a creative artist. This is perhaps only possible in full harmony when there is no exhibitionism in the creation. But there’s no need to delve into Eastern philosophies; for me, the Christian examples of Haydn or Bach are enough.”
