Every year the Institute organises a week-long programme in February or March, when instead of the regular lessons, students have the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of special lectures, workshops and other activities that do not fit into the regular timetable.
The Special Week, held between 3-7 March in 2014, offered several interesting lectures, workshops and even a two-day study tour to Győr for the students of the Institute. They could watch a preview screening of the piano pedagogical DVD of Mrs. Zsuzsa Héjjas, which is to be released by the summer; and participate in various pedagogical workshops. These included one given by Helga Dietrich on early childhood music education and another on music and games by Vera Bánki. The Colourstrings Method was featured in Csaba Szilvay’s workshop (as a part of which the composer László Rossa was kind enough to analyze his works,) and also by Lili Berki Ponó, who held a workshop dealing with the piano adaptation of the method.
During the study tour in Győr the students of the Institute had the opportunity to observe music lessons of various age groups and musical levels: musical activities in the Bartók Béla Nursery School, a Kokas lesson at the Bartók Béla Primary School, two choir rehearsals, one of them held in the Liszt Ferenc Music School, a music lesson in the Krúdy Gyula Secondary School, a music analysis lecture given by Endre Olsvay at the Varga Tibor Institute of Musical Art of the Széchenyi István University and a solfege – music theory class at the Richter János Secondary School of Music (Conservatoire) of Győr. The professional programmes provided an overview of Hungarian music education that was both broad and detailed for our students.
