Karen Zorn, President of Longy School of Music of Bard College from Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA visited the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét on 23 November, 2013 and discussed fields of a possible future cooperation between the institutions with László Norbert Nemes, director.
President Zorn was amazed by the mission as well as the housing of the Kodály Institute. She was presented a short video about the professional activities and daily life at the Institute after which she had a mutually beneficial discussion with director Nemes. Longy’s vision – stating to prepare musicians to use music to make a difference in the world as its mission – nicely compliments Kodály’s educational philosophy. Longy School of Music has campuses in the Boston and Los Angeles areas, where graduates can enhance their studies with courses in music education.
The institution also serves as the contracted American partner of FundaMusical, the Venezuelan groundbreaking organization advancing the famous El Sistema programme giving hope for children living in poverty and hopelessness through music education.
