The Christmas season events of the Kodály Institute were started by the charity concert of the New Liszt Ferenc Chamber Choir (conductor: Péter Erdei, Liszt Prize awardee, merited artist) on 1 December, Advent Sunday in the Concert Hall of the Calvinist College in Kecskemét.
The Calvinist College and the Kodály Institute organised the concert to raise money for the Karol Wojtyla Friendship Centre and the families supported by them.
Another charity event followed on Friday, 6 December in the Concert Hall of the Kodály Institute. (In Hungary St. Nicholas leaves sweets and small presents for children on this day.) Students of the Institute gave a playful concert for families of the SOS Children’s Village of Kecskemét. As well as the programme, the Institute greeted the children with some presents which were handed out by St. Nicholas (or Santa Claus) “himself”.
After the children’s programme, a more serious event, the last student concert in the first semester of the 2013-2014 academic year, took place in the Concert Hall.
On Saturday, 14 December the Institute organised an Advent Concert. The Choir of the Institute (conductor: László Norbert Nemes) and the Angelica Girls’ Choir from Budapest (conductor: Zsuzsanna Gráf) along with Andrea Vigh, Liszt Prize awardee harpist, gave a concert in the St. Nicholas Church in Kecskemét.
After the concert the teachers, students and workers of the Institute gathered in the Concert Hall of the Institute for a small reception. They sang and celebrated together singing Christmas songs, which was a nice closing of the first semester. They also said farewell to students who are not coming back for the second semester.
