COMMEMORATING ZOLTÁN KODÁLY’S BIRTHDAY
On 16 December the students of the Institute honoured Zoltán Kodály at his birthplace with singing and laying a wreath by the memorial plaque there. The workers and students then travelled to Budapest to visit the Zoltán Kodály Memorial Museum.
In the afternoon they viewed the exhibition of the Museum. The students gave a short concert of Kodály songs and laid a wreath by the memorial plaque on the side of the museum, the building that served as Kodály’s last home. The group finished the trip by listening to a concert of choral works by Kodály at the Liszt Academy.
END OF SEMESTER CONCERT
The Kodály Institute End-of-Semester Concert of was held on 13 December. The programme included performances by the Institute Choir, directed by Dr. László Norbert Nemes, the Conducting Lab Choir, directed by students in the Advanced Conducting Course, and several solo and chamber performances. A festive reception followed the concert, where we said farewell to the students not returning for the second semester.
ADVENT CONCERT IN KISJAKABFALVA
The students of the Institute travelled to Kisjakabfalva, near Villány on 6-7 December to give an advent concert and stay as guests at the Jackfall Winery. Following the late afternoon performance, the students had a guided tour in the beautiful Swabian mansion of the Winery and its wine cellar. Then they were treated to a hearty dinner with several wines to taste. Some of the students brought along their instruments, and the night concluded with music making and folk song teaching in the pleasant atmosphere.
