Stipendium Hungaricum - scholarship opportunity for Argentinian, Chinese and Japanese students

The government of Hungary has created several new scholarship opportunities (Stipendium Hungaricum) for those interested in pursuing graduate or postgraduate studies in Hungary including the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music and the Kodály Institute. 


Short Courses in January

Between 13 and 17 January the Institute hosted two different groups of visitors. A smaller group of teachers from the Korean Kodály Society observed lessons in the local Kodály School, also attending lectures on methodology and Kodály’s lifework at the Kodály Institute.



Scholarships for the 2014-2015 academic year are available from the Hungarian Scholarship Board (HSB).

Undergraduate Course: BA in General Music Studies with Kodály Emphasis
Application deadline: 15 February for studies commencing in September. 
Graduate Course: MA in Kodály Music Pedagogy
Application deadline: 15 February for studies commencing in September.

Events in December 2013

The Christmas season events of the Kodály Institute were started by the charity concert of the New Liszt Ferenc Chamber Choir (conductor: Péter Erdei, Liszt Prize awardee, merited artist) on 1 December, Advent Sunday in the Concert Hall of the Calvinist College in Kecskemét.

Master Barcsay and His Pupils

The temporary exhibition was opened on 4 December at the Institute.


International Evening

The students of the Institute organised this year’s International Evening on 30 November. The programme was much more interactive than in the previous years, with (just to name a few activities) Australian Aborigine-style painting, origami, poems, short dramatic scenes and a Canadian quiz game included among the usual, quality folk music performances and folk dance teachings.

President of Longy School visits the Institute

Karen Zorn, President of Longy School of Music of Bard College from Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA visited the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét on 23 November, 2013 and discussed fields of a possible future cooperation between the institutions with László Norbert Nemes, director.
