International Kodály Symposium 2015

SINGING, SINGING, SINGING: The Core of Musical Expression

Detailed information is now available for the 22nd International Kodály Symposium which will be hosted by the National Youth Choir of Scotland at the Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh, Scotland from 3-7 August, 2015. 

Delegates are invited to present research papers, workshops, rehearsals and other musical and academic topics related to the themes of the Symposium.


Concert – Sounds of Sapporo

On 20 September members of the Sapporo Musicians Association visited the Kodály Institute. In the evening they gave a concert joined by some students of the Liszt Academy, Budapest, to commemorate the good relations between the two institutions. The programme aimed to introduce contemporary Japanese music to the audience, but the performers also paid homage to Kodály and Bartók by performing one of their works. 


Workshop and concert of the Incanto Vocal Ensemble (Finland) in Kecskemét

On 26 September the Incanto Vocal Ensemble from Finland visited the Kodály Institute and held a workshop on Finnish choral music in the afternoon for our students. Later at 6 pm they gave a concert in the Franciscan church where they performed, among other works, the pieces discussed at the workshop.


Visit of the Irish Ambassador at the Institute

On 17 September the Ambassador of Ireland in Hungary, Ambassador Kevin Dowling visited Kecskemét to welcome our six Irish students, who have started their studies at the Institute in September. 


Employee’s Anniversaries

During the Opening Ceremony on 12 September, we also celebrated several faculty members and employees of the Institute. Dr. Katalin Kiss and Zsuzsanna Kontra professors of the Institute, and Rozália Antal, employee of the Institute, have been working here for 25 years, along with Zsuzsanna Polyák, librarian, who has been working here for 10 years. They were recognised and given bouquets of flowers and certificates to commemorate their service.
We would like to thank them heartily for all their work at the Institute.

The 2014-2015 academic year began

On 12 September the 2014-2015 academic year officially began. After Director László Norbert Nemes's speech at the Opening Ceremony, the students took the traditional oath to become official members of the Institute community.


Orientation Week

The Kodály Institute organises a series of daytrips around Hungary every year for the new students. The trips take them to places which have musical, historical or ethnograpical significance and which are more difficult to visit on individual trips. 



Long Night of Museums, 2014

Like many local museums and institutions, the Kodály Institute participated in the events of the Long Night of Museums in 2014, on 21 June. The Kodály Institute welcomed visitors from 6 pm, when Dr. László Norbert Nemes opened the exhibition of the Ari Kupsus Gallery (Budapest), which displayed student’s works from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. 


End of Academic Year Events

With the graduation ceremony of the BA and MA students of the Institute on 21 June the 2013-2014 academic year of the Kodály Institute is officially closed. They received their degrees in Budapest, in the concert hall of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, together with all other graduates of the Academy. 

Leading up to the ceremony, there were memorable moments that both students and workers of the Institute will recall fondly.
